Moni, I am glad you got to ride your bike today. If we ever have a nice, normal, fairly wet year with only moderately hot summer temperatures, I don't know if we'll even know what to do. Y'all, I suppose a person doesn't have to believe in the power of prayer to live here but I do believe in it, and the weather gives us a lot to pray about, doesn't it? So does the gardening. Y'all have been through so much the last few years and it is good to hear that things are going so well. Larry, I am so happy to hear your daughter is doing so well. I hope you will be one of the lucky ones, like me, for whom surgery alone is all that is needed. I know so very many cancer survivors these days and there's all sorts of wonderful options for treatment that didn't exist just a few years ago. I will be praying for you to have a positive outcome with your cancer surgery.

I have a feeling that if these drought years hang on a while, it will pay off to plant early and try to get good harvests before it gets too hot and too dry. Oldokie, I planted everything early last year too and it really paid off. So maybe I will try a few on the wall and they can climb over the wall to get into the front yard. I got some of those screw on climbing wall attachments and experimented with putting them up a tree to get into the tree house but didn't think it through and holes exuded tons of sap. Will post 'after' pictures when I'm done. But yes, we sneak over to my neighbor's grass sometimes and it feels so cool. Also because it is Las Vegas the turf got really hot in the summer! I have a restriction on my property that doesn't allow for installation of grass/sod per water conservation rules. We had artificial turf in another part of the yard, but we have a pine tree and the little pine needles kept falling into the turf making really prickly areas. Thank you all for your comments - Some additional feedback just for information's sake - We have sand and water area in another part of the yard and I have wildflower/bug area 'nature' wild and free. We were told this is an historical situation, and plumbers really don't even have the necessary salamanders/torpedoes, etc Scared to even try to leave because if temps come up, we're expecting significant bursts in pipes and won't have anyone here to tell us in order to get insurance/restoration company here, plus, really no way to leave. Can't imagine the damage, if we make it through this, even, up here for so long before we can traverse down the road to safe ground.

wondering how to make it through freeze w/out ice expanding more with temps tonite in single digits and no way to get water into placed or worse, once it does begin to thaw, what we might do in interim to insure they don't expand to point where their bursting causes even more damage. If we get the water running, we can always turn their pump to this home back on. We've turned off their valve that pumps the water here, as we're lower and last thing we would want is our pipes to unfreeze or begin to and their pump to continue to pump, thereby blowing our pipes to pieces. We've been in their home (this is their 2nd home & aren't here), all of the mechanics working fine and their water is on great. The pump of shared well is on neighbor's property. Right now, any ideas about getting PVC and/or copper pipe flowing with water again. I know, Buyer beware, but the Broker continued to insure us we were easily accessible to hospitals, doctors, (EMS could be here in 4 minutes): we can't make it up mountain in 4 minutes in dry beautiful weather. Husband is 78 and I've had 3 knee implants in left knee, 2 spine surgeries and 2 more to come. Can someone please suggest what we can do. Vehicles can't get up either without taking huge risks, so plumbers aren't eager to make apts soon. We have had electric heater on down there all day, no water and no way to get down hill for at least a week. 1ft to 14 inches down the drive, but when the pipe got to our home, he had 4 men digging approximately 10 feet deep, so the pipe is that far down, accessible through crawl space only, in order to warm, etc. Turns out that they had a pipe burst before and the owner of this home had to pay but did it right, we were told: had PVC pipe installed approx. Their property is higher than ours just a bit and runs down the drive and under our log home (large, also).

It also turns out we share a fantastic water well with one other property owner right next to our property. 10 degrees (we didn't know: just got here a couple days ago. Stuck for a week, due to straight drops on both sides & no barriers. Last nite it snowed 6" and it's 2 1/2 miles down. Bought on top of a mountain to begin with: big mistake. Just bought home in Wears Valley, TN (next to Smoky Mtns. Lcwatson51 HELP, PLS? I am grateful I found this site.
